Tim Steinert Joins Alibaba Group as General Counsel
Hangzhou, August 2, 2007 - The Alibaba Group, a global e-commerce leader and the largest e-commerce company in China, today announced the appointment of Timothy A. Steinert as general counsel. Mr. Steinert was previously a partner of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

Mr. Steinert has over 17 years of experience practicing law based in Mainland China, Hong Kong and New York. Since 1999, he has been a corporate partner at Freshfields in Hong Kong, where he focused on overseas IPOs of Chinese companies and cross-border mergers and acquisitions. Prior to Freshfields, Mr. Steinert practiced with Davis Polk & Wardwell in Hong Kong and New York and with Coudert Brothers in Beijing and New York.
He is a member of the New York bar and is a qualified solicitor in Hong Kong. Mr. Steinert graduated from Yale College and holds a juris doctor degree from Columbia University School of Law. He is married with two children.
