Digital Wall Calendar

CrowdSpirit aims to revolutionize electronicmanufacturing industry by creating the first end-user community ableto design by its own products fully in line with their wishes andexpectations.

Our first product will be a digital wall calendar. Here is asummary of the specifications:

1-Hardware

Screen : LCDs, between 9"-15" range, mimimu resolution of 1024x768

CPU : low end ARM9/11. Candidates would be :

• Atmel's AT91SAM9261 (prefered option : integrated 24-bit LCD controller, 2x USB 2.0, and a small DSP-accelerator we can use for fancier graphics to make up for the fact it's only 210MIPS)

• Freescale's MX21/MX27 (open board designs are available with the MX21, which can get us to market quicker; the MX27 adds speed at 400MHz, and has a full h264 decoder if we want to add video, and an ethernet MAC if that matters; both chips have an 18-bit LCD controller which we might be able to use, and USB2)

• Marvell's PXA270 (has the advantage of age, chip availability, integrates an XGA video controller and USB1, is very spartan beyond that)

Storage : RAM: 32MB of SDRAM, 32MB of Flash

Connection : Wifi (optional), USB (mandatory), Bluetooth (optional), LAN (optional)

Input device : USB (mandatory), Wireless Keyboard via bluetooth (optional), SD slot (optional)

Button :very simple button pad in the front, 5 to 6 buttons (function to be agreed)

backup battery :A 9V or 3 AA-sized

2-Software

Operating system : Linux

 

3-Basic function

Mandatory :

• Import of calendars : web based (e.g. google calendar), lotusnotes, outlook, phone calendars,

• Import from: internet, PDAs, phones, computers

• Export of events to web based calendars

• Screensaver image display

• Ability to display individual calendars (sort of events by type or person, for instance)

• Day, week, and month views of calendar

• Always on

• Fast Boot
  

Optional :

• Note taking/post-it function for quick notes (ex. "Ran to the store, be back soon.")

• Icons for event types (sports, holidays, birthdays, etc.)

• Input of events for display on digital wall calendar

• Alarm function for events

• Photo slideshow of digital photos
