More Information

The current motor has a speed range of 0 to 9000 rpm's which allows the machine to utilize sealed greased bearings while providing high torque.
A smaller diameter motor (~5 cm less in diameter) with addition winding length to achieve the same performance would be preferred.
In this application, the motor is not continuously used. In preliminary testing it is only utilized for short periods of time (5 to 10 second bursts) at high power levels. Overall, the machine is typically only being powered 5 to 10% of the time. Only 1% to 2 % of the time is the motor being utilized at a high (higher than the motor's continuous ratings). So, the peak torque and it corresponding efficiency of the motor need to be examined in the application, not the continuous duty requirements.
The machine will be used in a bus were mud and dirt are common which could easily collect in the stator housings fins. Therefore, a smooth stator sleeve/housing is usually best in a vehicle application.
The winding temperature will be monitored and can be de-rated if necessary. But, the motor stator should be designed with the highest temperature varnish coating available.
Please elaborate techniques for cooling the motor (i.e. water jacket, forced air, etc.)
