Biometric Flash Drives

Our company works on security designs for clients. We arecurrently developing systems that require biometric flash drives. We will alsobe creating practice statements for our clients. The practice statements willrequire these drives and they will specify specific functions that the drivesmust have.

Two of our clients are dealing with Federal and Provincial Government agenciesin Ontario, Canada.They may adopt some of our practice specifications as well.

We have had trouble sourcing the ideal device, so whatever device you can offer(must be biometric), please let us know.

Required:

Generic USB Flash drive
High Security encryption (AES preferred)
Minimum 500 DPI resolution
Power Supply via USB (no batteries)
480 Mbps USB
Unencumbered by patents
Unencumbered by software restrictions (preferably Open Source)

Desired:

FBI Certified and/or FIPS compliant
1200+DPI resolution
Method to detect that a live human print is used.

The device should not work with a cast or copy
Auto-On when fingerprint detected
Small form-factor to allow other devices to reside in adjacent USB ports.
Rugged zed
Tamper-proof

My Company is hoping to settle on a Standard here that will be therecommendation for all of our clients. The device must therefore becost-effective (all members of an organization would be required to use thedevice). The device must also be something that you can deliver in quantity forrollouts.

Configuration of the devices should be as simple as possible, but should allowexpert configuration if needed. That means that for ordinary users who wouldonly be putting in a thumb and/or index finger, they should be able to plug thedevice into a system and have it auto start (if under Windows) and set up forconfiguration on first use. We wish to use the same identical device for allusers. That means that 'role IDs' would require a minimum of five differentusers (fingerprints) to use the key.

We would prefer it if the system can be configured to require both afingerprint and a password to access the system. However, we can supply our ownsoftware for password encryption if we need to.

Devices should come in bulk, without a minimum of packaging. None of theseitems is intended for retail sale. They are intended to be sold by our company(or companies we designate) directly as a part of our security offerings.

These items are part of high-security end-to-end systems. We would requiredocumentation about your practices. These should include measures to ensurethat the devices are secure when you deliver them to us. They need to remainsecure until we put them into use.

The above device would be our standard recommendation. Our clients couldpossibly deploy these in large numbers over 2008 and 2009. This is becausedifferent government legislations are coming into effect during that time.

Although we expect to source other biometric devices elsewhere, we will requirea small number of higher security devices such as retinal scanners to securedata processing facilities. If your company provides such products, feel freeto pas that information along as well. However, it is not required.
