PORCHES for BREAK FAST and FERRARI for DINNER The CHEETAH Sports Car
The CHEETAH is a dual purpose (2 in 1), mid-engine two seat sports car with stunning looks and performance to match. Straight from the high way on to the racing track and compete in competitions. Those wishing to compete in motor sport need look no further than the CHEETAH, a car that handles so well in on the limit situations that you will likely find that those limits are considerably higher than any car you have previously driven, there for giving you the edge over the competition. The reduction of weight over the original car gives economy and improved handling. The acceleration is surprisingly rapid depending on the engine and power chosen It is difficult to give accurate performance figures since this depends on the specification of the chosen engine, tyres in use and the gearbox/diff ratios. A Replica fitted with a STANDARD Alfa 3.0 litter V6, won the street legal class and achieved a best standing quarter mile time of 13.1 seconds with a terminal speed of 176 km/h. This is already in hot V8 engine car territory. The standard ALFA engine makes +/- 150kw. HOW EVER
V8 TWIN TURBO ENGINES OF UP AND OVER 400kw V6 TWIN TURBO ENGINES OF 375kw Rotary engines 200kw up to 350kw
ARE AVAIABLE
ACCELARATION CAN be under 4 seconds & over 300km/h with this kind of power.
The fully bracketed chassis is fabricated from formed steel sections and cds tubing incorporating an RAC specification roll-cage with a steel tubular hoop running inside the roof extended to the rear and continued down the windscreen A pillars forming a complete safety cage. The chassis is fully jigged during construction and professionally mig-welded, and is available in both right, and left-hand drive configurations. The body is in high quality GRP with the addition of core mat where appropriate for added strength. It is unstressed to eliminate any star crazing and is finished to a high standard in a selection of coloured gel coats, with return flanges on all parts to aid rigidity. Extensive use is made of other expensive materials such as special aviation aluminium, carbon fiber, Kevlar, Gillfab honeycomb composites and cds tubing. (cold drawn seamless tubing) Bodies also be available manufactured in carbon fiber or KEVLAR. The Stratos, although a magnificent rally car, had sports car shortcomings, so in designing the silhouette CHEETAH it was decided to improve on the original not just to replicate it warts and all.
The Stratos had no separate chassis, whereas the Cheetah is of a sophisticated semi-monocoque construction. The improved car has been independently tested by STATUS and found to have a torsional deflection figure of over 6000 lb. ft/degree, which is stiffer by a factor of two over our nearest rivals. STATUS has awarded CAE their Blue Riband award for chassis performance and design, a title of which any chassis builder can be very proud of. The engine/transmission is mid-mounted in a rigid structure welded to the rear bulkhead, and this has been retained. The Cheetah has foam filled bulkheads, which reduces noise and much of the heat transfer associated with mid-engine cars. The original engine was a Ferrari Dino V6. The beauty of the Cheetah design construction is that the engine bay is large enough to accommodate virtually any transverse engine / transmission unit, even the Ferrari V8 can be accommodated. All engines are at racing standard blue printed to the finest details. |

The reduced weight achieved by using a complete fiber composite body (as opposed to having a center section of steel) means that far less power is needed to give a performance similar to the original.
It was done away with the complicated setting up of the suspension and the constant re-adjustment originally necessary, by the addition of silent block rubber bushes. This makes the Cheetah a more predictable car to drive than the original Stratos rally/race car. The front suspension geometry has been updated and with a new designed aluminium steering rack (no propriety unit was 100% suitable, so there was no alternative but to design a new one), the handling characteristics now match the performance of the car.
Disc brakes have been retained all round and are controlled by a Tilton pedal box, using a split system with adjustable front / rear bias. (as used on racing cars) The unique simplicity of the window raising mechanism has also been retained along with a full width boot. It was also able to increase head and legroom, so now the seating and control position are vastly improved over the rather cramped and awkward positions of the original. WHICH KIT said of the original development Stratos replica Without reservation, I can say that this is the safest and best road holding car I have ever experienced. |

The CHEETAH is not a REPLICA or KIT CAR !
The CHEETAH is a SILHOUETTE of the STRATOS, in many ways a much better product than the original rally car. As earlier mentioned many parts have been changed for the better (not a replica) and no second hand spares (scrap yard) suspension etc. used as in kit cars. Suspension is in house manufactured, hubs cast specifically for the CHEETAH by DENELL South Africas weapon manufacturer making parts for the ROOIVALK helicopter. The CHEETAH is only available as a complete car. |
