Overband belt magnetic separator is usually suspended above the conveyor belt, vibrating conveyor, vibrating feeder or chute to attract the magnetic elements, especially ferrous elements from non-magnetic materials for purification of materials or protecting the crushing machine, milling machine at next production step. Overband belt magnetic separator is complete with an iron-cleaning belt to clean the attracted magnetic elements automatically. Overband belt magnetic separator can be divided into belt permanent magnetic separator and belt electromagnetic separator. Overband belt permanent magnetic separator adopts rare earth magnet and ferrite magnet to form its permanent magnetic system, while overband belt electromagnetic separator adopts excitation coils to form its electromagnetic system. Overband belt magnetic separator is usually used in continuous duty occasions with plenty of iron materials. Overband belt magnetic separator is widely applied in cement, chemicals, plastics, coal, refractory, building materials, food and other industries.

When the magnetic separator operates, the materials on the conveyor belt pass beneath the magnetic separator, and the magnetic elements, especially ferrous elements in the raw materials will be attracted to the surface of the iron-cleaning belt. Driven by the motor, the iron-cleaning belt will move forward, and the magnetic elements on the iron-cleaning belt will be driven to move accordingly under friction force and effect of baffle plate. When the magnetic elements move away from the magnetic field area, as a result of their gravity and inertia, they will either fall to a collecting bin beneath the magnetic separator or fall to another conveyor belt and be conveyed to the assembling area, and this is the end of the automatic cleaning process.
