Drug: Benzhexol Hydrochloride
Benzhexol Hydrochloride is a type of medicine called an anticholinergic which work by preventing the activity of a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine. Is used for the symptomatic control of all forms of Parkinsonism, including the postencephalitic arteriosclerotic, and idiopathic types. It is also used to reduce drooling and to cure abnormal movements of the hands, legs, face, neck and tongue (extra pyramidal symptoms) usually observed as side effects of another medicine.

Properties: Benzhexol Hydrochloride is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. The onset of action is within 1 hour after oral dosing. The peak activity is noted after 2 to 3 hours. The duration of action of one single dose is 6 to 12 hours in a dose dependent manner. It is excreted in the urine, probably as unchanged drug.
Application & Uses: Benzhexol works by blocking the receptors that acetylcholine acts on. This reduces the activity of the acetylcholine, and helps restore the balance of acetylcholine and dopamine in the brain. In this way, benzhexol helps control some of the symptoms of Parkinson's disease.
