APLAB Cable Fault Locator Model 3049 is a portable field instrument working on the TDR principle and is designed to locate faults in unloaded telecommunication cables. It locates open and short circuits, series and shunt faults, split pairs and corrected splits, crosstalks and points of impedance change. The movement of the cursor to the fault position on the CRT display directly indicates the distance to the fault in meters on the LCD display. The instrument is designed to work on one line (L1), to compare L1 and L2 or to display the difference. Crosstalk points such as split pairs can be located by transmitting the pulse on L1 and receiving it on L2.
