WHAT IS FERTICELL UNIVERSAL?
Ferticell Universal is a highly concentrated solution of freshwater algae extract. Agroplasma uses only food grade unicellular algae and bacteria. Ferticell Universal utilizes a proprietary extraction process from these non-living organisms to promote high activity in native micro-flora populations with food sources such as carbon and phytohormones.
The phytohormones present in Ferticell Universal differ from synthetic hormones in that the ratios of hormones in a natural product are more balanced for a consistent response. Unlike kelp or seaweed products, Ferticell Universal uses unicellular algae,
which is cultured in fresh water from a consistent parent culture, to reduce both the salt content, and the inconsistencies experienced in kelp and seaweed products.
Culturing the organisms in fresh water is done to reduce the risk of salt burn when used in foliar applications, and to reduce the salt added to the soil from a fertility program.
Ferticell Universal is taken up by the plant via the leaf stoma or through the root system. Once inside the plant cell structure, the nutrient rich algae cells attach themselves to individual plant cells, and the nutrients are transferred from the alga cell to the plant cell in a balanced form. This process is known as Inter-Cellular Exchange (I.C.E. Technology). Ferticell Universal’s algae cells which have not been utilized by the roots will remain in the soil and be used as a food source by soil microbes, greatly increasing the living component of the soil. The algae cells also break down minerals in the soil that are blocked or tied up for various reasons, while processing chemical forms of nutrients so that they are assimilated into the plant more efficiently.

How & Why It Works
Ferticell products are a concentrated solution of cells and cell extracts including algae and bacteria which are naturally occurring single cellular plants.
The unique characteristics of the different types of all cells used in Ferticell is their ability to store very large amounts of nutrients such as amino acids, microelements, and vitamins within their cell walls and then transfer these nutrients to the plant.
Cytoplasmic streaming, or Inter-Cellular Exchange (ICE), is the mechanism by which nutrient movement from Ferticell occurs into the plant’s cells. ICE is most active in young living cells, particularly those found in leaves and roots.
The conditions required for cytoplasmic streaming are:
• A functional connection system between two cells – plasmadesmata (strands of cytoplasm)
• A surrounding medium of lower concentration than the two cells. Either the dilute inter-cellular space or the soil solution
• A difference in concentration of plasmas in two adjacent cells – Ferticell cells and plant cells
The cells in the Ferticell products are considerably more concentrated than the surrounding solution. The leaf cells contain a solution which is considerably less concentrated than the Ferticell cells. This difference in concentration initiates the Inter-Cellular Exchange of nutrients from Ferticell into the plant’s leaves. The same process applies to the transfer of Ferticell nutrients into the plant root when it is in the soil. Here the Ferticell cell associates with root hairs and the plasma medium enters the soil solution in the immediate vicinity of the hairs.
Although cells appear to be self-contained units, there are minute pores in the cell wall, through which strands of cytoplasm can pass. These strands, called plasmadesmata, play a vital role in providing an interconnection between adjacent cells in such a way that the cytoplasm is continuous between the cells.

If we magnify the leaf and picture it in a three-dimensional section we would see that it is composed of cells, pores and space for air and water. If we concentrate our view on a leaf pore, or stomata, the Ferticell cell is smaller than the stomata and thus can enter the plant leaf when foliar applied. It passes through the stomata into
spaces around the various leaf cells known as the spongy layers. These spaces are occupied with a diluted solution of nutrient and air. It is here that the unique benefits of Ferticell are realized, as nutrients are transferred to the plant.The transfer is a phenomenon known as the Pressure Transference Phenomenon or cytoplasmic streaming.

Nutrients will flow from areas of high concentration to areas of low concentration (source to sink) to achieve a balance.
The nutrient rich Ferticell cells transfer cytoplasm to the nutrient depleted leaf cells, which in turn are transferred to other cells and parts of the plant for storage, growth, regeneration and reproduction.
NUTRIENT TRANSFER IN SOIL APPLICATIONS
The Ferticell cells in the soil will also unlock any nutrients in the soil and transfer them to the plant. The result will be a diffusion of water into the Ferticell cell from the leaf cell. The Ferticell cell, containing cytoplasm with its nutrients, will be carried along in a mass flow to the leaf cell. The mass flow will cease when enough nutrients have been moved from the Ferticell cell to the leaf cell to balance the concentration of both solutions.
The likely scenario, following the achievement of this balance is that the Ferticell cell will die and release its remaining nutrients into the inter-cellular medium or soil solution. These nutrients become available for diffusion through the cell membrane by active transport.
