How to Reduce Feeds Cost

Feed formulas with instructions. Price: PhP2,990 or US$90/one formula

Use More Local Ingredients, Less or No Imported Fish Meal

Using more of local feed ingredients and less of the imported fish meal and soybean meal can reduce feeds cost significantly, and can turn a losing poultry or piggery operation into a profitable one.

The high cost of chicken feeds, pig feeds, fish feeds and prawn feeds is a limiting factor in today’s production of chicken, eggs, pork, fish (such as bangus or milkfish and tilapia) and prawn. Prices of imported fish meal, soybean meal, lysine HCl and DL methionine have gone up high.

Local Feed Ingredients Are Usually Cheap

The common locally-produced feed ingredients are yellow corn, corn fines or corn meal or tiktik , cassava, banana meal (from export banana rejects), corn bran (includes corn germ meal), rice bran, copra meal and fish meal byproduct from fish canneries in Southeast Asia (although local fish meal is not sufficient because of its use in commercial fish cages and fish pens).

From experience the use of each local ingredient has limits, although it has now been discovered that some heretofore neglected ingredients can actually supplement much of the amino acid requirements in feeds. And there is the solution to saving on feeds cost—mix the feeds yourself using more of the local ingredients and less of the imported soybean meal and less or none of the imported fish meal.

Organic Chicken and Pigs

Organically-fed and free-ranged poultry and pigs offer additional savings on feeds cost because the chickens and pigs can feed on protein- and vitamin-rich vegetation for supplemental feeding. The bonus is lean, meaty broiler chicken or more nutritious eggs and lean, meaty pork. Instructions for growing organically-grown chicken and pigs are included with the feed formula, if organic feed formula is specified by a customer.

To mix your own feeds you need to follow a computer-balanced and -generated feed formula or feed formulation that is done according to U.S. National Research Council (NRC) recommendations and latest researches on animal nutrition. (The feed formula is delivered via email.) The feed formula is like a simple cookbook recipe. It also comes with sourcing and simple mixing instructions. No machinery is needed for small livestock producers; a big basin, clean ladle and clean container will do. For medium-scale operation, a rented cement mixer can do the mixing of the feeds ingredients.

Free consultation is given to customers that have already paid for a feed formula or formulas. After-sales service is personal although done remotely via email and SMS text.

What a Feed Formula is NOT.

A feed formula here is NOT a package of powdered or grains materials that you can feed to chickens or pigs. It is a computer-generated recipe for mixing feeds from ingredients that you buy direct from farmers or from rice and corn mills.
