In-situ flange facer cum boring for facing, boring & step boring in single set up
This is an OD or face mounting type flange facer, specially designed for vertical jobs in ship building industries for at-site work. It is suitable for flanges, having dia 0 mm to dia 1,550 mm. The 4 legs clamp the job either on face or in the OD, through manually tightening studs. This flange facer has been supplied to Mazagaon Docks Ltd, Mumbai.
The flange facer consists of a rotary drive unit, horizontal arm and a self-feeding quill mechanism for vertical depth of cut along with a control panel with operator’s console.
ROTARY DRIVE UNIT consists of a ram type quill, having 50mm QUILL MOVEMENT through a motorized quill mechanism. An extremely rigid, box type ram is the quill, which provides 50 mm or more vertical up and down movement for feed in boring and for depth of cut setting in facing. The drive is through 2 HP motor and worm deduction gear box. The feed range is 20 mm to 600 mm per minute in step-less range through a VFD. This feature facilitates boring and step boring operation, apart from facing in a flange in a single set up.
The SPINDLE (rotary drive shaft) is supported by a pair of heavy duty taper roller bearings in the front and by a pair of ball bearings in the other end. Bearings are lubricated for life through molybdenum sulfide grease. The rotary movement is 2 to 20 RPM in a step-less range through vector VFD. The spindle is made of EN-24, hardened and ground. The box type ram and the ram housing are made of high grade CI. The sliding surfaces are combination of Turcite and case hardened guideway strips.
Mounted on to the rotary drive unit is the RAM for cross axis feed through lead screw & box nut. The step-less feed range from 20 mm to 600 mm per minute is through a VFD controlled 1 HP motor and worm reduction gear box.
Rotational speed, vertical & cross feed rate can be varied to suit to the customer’s requirement.
The tool post mounted on the ram can swivel ±45° while taper machining. The angle can be set through a graduated collar provided.
The CLAMPING SYSTEM consists of 4 clamping arms & 4 clamping legs. The arms are rigidly clamped to the rotary drive housing. The sliding legs have provisions for variable lengths, depending upon the flange diameter. The unique clamping system has provision for clamping on the job face or on it’s OD through manuals studs.
A brushless rotary connector ensures that the cross feed & limit switch cables do not get entangled in the rotary movement of the arm.
The electrical panel houses all the drive & switch gear elements and the operator’s console contains the controls, speed/feed variation knobs & digital meters showing the feed & speed rates.
All sliding & rotating surfaces are well lubricated.
COMPARATIVE & DISTINCT ADVNATAGES OF OUR FLANGE FACER:
- No need of compressed air. Just 3 phase power supply is sufficient. Plug-in type of socket is provided to the input cable.
- Cutting efficiency of other flange facer depends on the quality of compressed air supply. Further, leakage in the air lines is a recurring problem. Both the problems are avoided in type of flange facers.
- The rigid and perfectly balanced ram and the heavy rotary drive unit facilitates heavy material removal.
- The vertical feed is through a power assisted quill mechanism, similar to the quill mechanism what you see in milling & boring machines. This is a more positive vertical feed mechanism, compared to the manual quill movement, permitting heavy boring, drilling operations.
