Structure and properties:
1. direction measuring mechanism:
It is composed of compass, light door and sight star. The outer circle of azimuth subdivision is 360 degrees, the minimum lattice value is 2 degrees, the inner circle is 60-00 dense subdivision, and the minimum lattice value is 0-20 dense. The conversion of density and degree is shown in table.

3. pitch angle measuring mechanism:
It is composed of a pitching board, a pitching pendulum, a flat vision mirror, and its measuring range is + 90 degrees.

1. measuring azimuth:
Expanding the North hand, turning the azimuth frame to make the calibration line on the azimuth glass relative to the direction index, aiming at the target through the azimuth mirror oblique placing (45 degrees) monocular, from the azimuth mirror reflection to see the magnetic needle N pole on the inversion tablet above the division, can read the target azimuth, and then rotate the azimuth frame with the right hand to make the azimuth glass. The angle between the direction index and the azimuth glass scale line is the target azimuth angle (calculated clockwise).
The azimuth angle from the datum point to the target point can be judged by opening the north-pointing needle, demarcating the map (without demarcating the map when ranging), inserting a needle at the datum point on the map, turning the north-pointing needle, and cutting the side ruler edge to the target point.
2. calibration map:
Expand the North hand, rotate the azimuth frame, align the calibration line on the azimuth frame with the direction index (pay attention to the correction of magnetic deviation angle). Place the North hand on the map, point one end of the star toward the north pole of the map, make the coordinate ladder length tangent to the map magnetic meridian, rotate the map so that the magnetic needle N pole is aligned with the scale on the azimuth glass. The map is calibrated.
3. seek the direction of the marching target:
Spread the north pointer on the map, so that the surveying ruler passes through the map on my foothold and marching objectives, then the direction of the indicators that point to the direction of the march. Turn the azimuth frame so that the (S, N) direction on the azimuth glass is consistent with the (S, N) direction on the map. Then write down the azimuth reading pointed by the azimuth index. Face the azimuth index, pick up the North hand and rotate the body. Then align the magnetic needle N pole with the calibration line on the azimuth glass. At this time, align forward through the alignment door, on this alignment line. Each object (such as trees, houses, etc.) can be used as the auxiliary target of the marching direction. After recognizing the auxiliary target, it can move forward. Close the needle and put it in the bag, but do not rotate the azimuth frame. After reaching the auxiliary target, you can find a new auxiliary target to move on until the destination. Always check the direction reading along the way.
4. the distance between the target and the standing point is known, and the distance between the target and the standing point is estimated.
(1) The distance of the target is estimated by the ratio of 10:1 according to the multiple of the width between the left and right tips of the target interval.
The distance between the target and the standing point (m) = the target interval width (m) X10 / the multiple of the target interval width at the two tips of the target star
Example: a highway ahead is parallel to my square, seeking the distance between the highway and the position.
There are poles along the highway, the distance between the poles is 50 meters. The distance estimator measures 5 poles at the left and right tips, that is, the interval between each two poles is 1/4 of the distance between the left and right tips. According to the formula of proportions,
The distance between the highway and the position is =50x10x4=2000 meters.

2. Using the auxiliary point to get the target distance.
Aim at the target with the photo door, turn the azimuth frame so that the calibration line to the N pole of the positive magnetic needle, and record the azimuth reading indicated by the direction index below. Then turn left or right in the right-hand direction (that is, 15-00 difference from the original azimuth reading) to find an auxiliary point, and measure the distance from the auxiliary point to the standing point by step measurement or other methods. At the auxiliary point, the north-pointer is used to align the target with the star through the gate. The same rotation azimuth frame is used to align the calibration line with the N-pole of the magnetic needle. According to the difference between the two directional angle readings and the distance from the standing point to the auxiliary point, the target distance can be obtained by referring to Schedule 2.
If the difference between the two directional angle readings is 7-50 (i.e. 45 degrees), the target distance is equal to the distance from the standing point to the auxiliary point.

5. measuring the elevation angle:
Aiming at the target with the door pointing downward, the reading of the pitch angle is reflected through the head-up mirror, or the inclination angle of the plane is measured by standing on the face.
6. measuring height:
Height is measured by maps and altimeter. The horizontal distance from the standing point to the target is found on the map, and then the pitch degree is measured with the North needle. The altitude is checked by the altimeter, and the trigonometric function is also used to calculate the altitude. Example: the height of the mountain to the top.
The horizontal distance between the mountain top and the standing point is 100 meters from the map. The elevation of the mountain top is 40 degrees with the North needle. Then the altimeter is checked at 100 meters and compared with 40 degrees. The height is 83.91 meters.

7. measuring the mileage between any two points on the map:
The formula for calculating the length of the square net and the distance relation of the field on different scale maps

1:25000 map: distance = (/4 mm) X100 (m)
1:50000 map: distance = (/2 mm) X100 (m)
1:100000 map: distance = millimeter X 100
