Fully maritime capable releasable plate carrier that allows the use of a NIJ IIIA soft armor inserts plus the necessary plates.
With so many different carriers out there, we've decided to focus on a small niche for those who need armor carriers that are maritime friendly or capable. The walls of both the front and rear panels are lined with close cell foam that provides the buoyancy required.
This carrier is a design collaboration that started in our studio but soon made it's way through maritime units from Virginia Beach to foreign (US friendly) VBSS teams. Several variations of our carrier have already been produced to meet each unit's requirements.
Although the basic design and cut is that of a plate carrier, ours will handle both plates and soft armor inserts. We currently provide Dyneema NIJ IIIA inserts with these carriers and due to Dyneema's inherent light weight, it adds to the positive buoyancy of our carrier. During trials held by maritime units, this carrier has been tested to provide buoyancy for up to 191 pounds (87 kilos) without the aid of a flotation device.
During the many questions we put out to operators during the design phase of this carrier, the one single uniformity we found was the location of the release cable. Most preferred that the release cable be located roughly where the pull-cord of their parachute would be. As such, we've placed the pull-loop of our cable at the side of the right chest, rougly around the same location an operator would expect on their parachute rig.
