Thurayaeye Radio System

The ThurayaEYE has three basic modes ofoperation: telephony, Internet and E-mailing, GPS tracking.  

Telephony. The voice interface ofthe Eye is wireless. Any WiFi handset or Bluetooth headset might be used tomake and receive calls. GSM phones with WiFi or Bluetooth, or PC soft phonesmight also be used. The Eye has to be placed outdoor, Thuraya SIM card has tobe inserted, and device has to be registered in the network. The caller mightbe indoor using the wireless interface.

Internetand E-mails. For Internet browsing and E-mailing PC or laptop needs to be connectedto the Eye trough the WiFi interface. An ordinary network configuration has tobe done in the computer using factory default IP address of the Eye. Device hasto be placed outdoor, registered in Thuraya network. The user might be indoor.Then Internet browsing and E-mailing are like any ordinary network. Downloaddata rate is up to 60 Kbps.

GPStracking.The Eye has two modes of GPS tracking: SMS based and GmPRS based. Selectiondepends from the application. In both modes a number of functions areimplemented, such as polled position acquisition, scheduled acquisition,start/stop handling, geo fencing, message compression, offline tracking. Through partnership with leadingnational telecom and mobile communications companies, Thuraya provides blanketcoverage to more than 110 countries in Europe, North, Central Africa and largeparts of Southern Africa, the Middle East, Central and South Asia: a landmassinhabited by an estimated 2.3 billion people. The new satellite launched in2008 further covers Far East, China and Australia.

The Eye has two interfaces: WiFi andBluetooth.

WiFiInterface:

• Supports Infrastructure and Ad-hoc networks (definable at factory floor)
• 64-bit/128-bit configurable WEP encryption
• Dependable of the data rate operating distance, max 100m clear space
• Compatible with IEEE 802.11b and 802.11g devices. 

BluetoothInterface:

• Bluetooth version 1. 2 compliant
• Built-in antenna
• Range up to 10 meters (line-of-sight)
• 79 operating channels of 1MHz BW
• Full support of Bluetooth security provisions including hardware support for full-length 128 bit encryption keys.
