What is stroke?
A stroke occurs when the blood supply to the part of the brain is suddenly interrupted (ischemic) or when a blood vessel in the brain bursts, spilling blood into the spaces surrounding the brain cells (hemorrhagic). Brain cells die when they no longer receive oxygen and nutrients from the blood or when they are damaged by sudden bleeding into or around the brain. These damaged cells can linger in a compromised state for several hours. With timely treatment, these cells can be saved.
Is there any treatment?
All modalities of the rehabilitation are conventional. The case has supported to live with its neurologic deficits permanently. The case who works with special protocol can relearn and success the loss functions on limb. The first recovery functions are thinking, concentration, cognitive functions, really continual motor control on the affected limb, reducing the spastisity and shoulder pain, and in the last reducing the sensorial deficits. Everyday activities such as eating, drinking and swallowing, dressing, bathing, cooking, reading and writing, and toileting comes up easily after this modern treatment method.
What research is being done?
Scientists are working to develop new and better ways to help the brain repair itself and restore important functions to the stroke patients. Some evidence suggests that transcranial magnetic stimulation (tms), in which a small magnetic current is delivered to an area of the brain, may possibly increase brain plasticity and speed up recover of function after stroke.
But some new evidences on this area show very interesting and good news which comes from emg triggered electrostimulation (mentamove method). Through this method the many healthy areas of the brain can reactivate by this method and after this the brain reorganisation develops. This concept showed with fmri technique (functional magnetic resonance imaging) after mentamove training protocol, which basis on the brain plasticity (capability of the relearning and reporgramming).
