General
The factors of causing the transit surge voltage of the power system are inclusive of the lighting surge and switch operation fault or system fault. These situations will damage the distribution supply system, transformers, cable, and the motor electrical equipments of distribution panel. For the safety of power supply system, using the lighting arresters is necessary. Lightning arresters are protective devices for limiting surge voltages due to lightning surge or equipment faults or other events, to prevent damage to equipment and distribution of system service. When the system is over voltage, the lighting arrester will immediately discharge and limit the voltage within the normal range. Then, the power system will operate normally.
The lightning arresters of power system can be divided into Zinc-Oxide Surge Arrester and Carborundum Surge Arrester. Due to the gap must be occurred in Carborundum Surge Arrester and V-I characteristic is badness. Also, the follow current cutting ability is not good and the using life-cycle is short, so the product is not used anymore. For this reason, our company produces quality product- Zinc-Oxide Surge Arrester.
Principle
Zinc-Oxide surge arrester is with the over voltage protection function due to the ZnO element is with the non-linear resistance characteristic. When the current is suddenly up to 10kA, the both side voltage extremities of ZnO element will increase only about 50%. When the surge passes through the surge arrester, like the surge voltage is higher than the discharging voltage of surge arrester, the resistance of arrester will drop to very low. Lead surge current to the ground end and both side voltage extremities of arrester can maintain the ground voltage of power system in the acceptable voltage range. After surge current passing, arrester will resetting its high insulation characteristic and no 60 Hz follow current. All the process of surge control, there is no over voltage and voltage dip. It can make sure that the power system operating steady and maintain the power supply quality.
