Pharmacological action
The polysaccharide is composed of 1,4-β-linked disaccharides of D-glucuronosyl-1, 3-β-N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, which molecules in aqueous solution display marked stiffness and very limited configurational flexibility. There is much water in their spongy gap. When the molecules enlarge, the viscosity of the polysaccharide increase rapidly and with density raising, the elasticity of the solution increase correspondingly. Because of the possessing pseudoplasticity, it keeps stable shape in aqueous liquid and possesses the action of protecting cornea endothelium and is most idealest viscoelastic agent for ophthalmologic operation.
