WORKMANSHIP:

1.Select materials

We currently select the purified and compactly red clay. Because it is dense and have no impurity . It is easy to paint the color on it. There's no materials can replace it. It is proved that the clay from da ming town in  hua county is the most suitable for making the black pottery.

2.Purify the clay

First step: Dry clay in strong sunshine

Second step: dip the clay in pured water without basic ion

Third step: take out the impurity after several days deposit

Four stepmake the clay into rectangles and put them in sunshine four or five consecutive days

Five step: put the dry clay rectangles in the basement one year before use it

3.Strike the clay

After one years storage, put the clay on a board. Knead it by metal stick, feet and hand to let the air out from it. Repeat those actions until the clay because pliable but strong and not sticky.

4.Shape the model

First step: Put the processed clay on the electronic turn plate to shape different models.

Second step: put it in a sunless place until the models become hard but not too dry.

Third step: embellish the model

5.Smooth the surface of the model

First step: Put the model on a turn plate , use knife to shave the raised parts of the model.

Second step: use a smooth surface tool to abrade the model as smooth as mirror while the model rotate

6.Smolder

First step: dry the model absolutely or the model will be broken while heat it.

Second step: put the models in furnace and heat it at different temperature in different period. The temperature must be controlled strictly. Any false will cause failure. This procedure will take four days.

Paint the the blue print on the model.

Take the redundant part out from the model then put the model in the furnace to heat it.

7.Enchase drawing on the black pottery

The soul of the black pottery come form the drawing enchased on it by the artist. They have to practice nearly ten years to improve their craft. The artist can enchased the pottery without painting the blue print beforehand. The drawing enchased on it have liquid lines and distinct gradations. the artist must be a knight of the brush, a historian and a graver . they must can finish one art without any inaccuracy because they only have one chance. It is really an amazing technology. It might take the artist several days to complete one drawing..
