***The Principle of External Counter Pulsation (EECP)

 

The external counterpulsation, supported by modern scientific theory, well performed by computer and digital electric control, is a noninvasive way to improve the circulation and further treat the ischemic disorders of heart, brain and kidney, which appears as an unique equipment composed of a host computer, a bed and a series of pneumatic compressive cuffs around the lower extremities and buttocks, or even the four limbs.

 

The principle of external counterpulsation is described as the following. Trigged by the R waves in the cardiac electricity, the cuffs are inflated during the diastolic period in sequence from the distal part to the proximal. The compression of the inflated cuffs on the limbs and buttocks will make the blood there backflow to the aorta to elevate the aortic pressure and blood volume, therefore increase the perfusion of those vital organs such as heart, brain and kidney. While before the systolic phase, the cuffs are deflated rapidly, thus the limb vessels are decompressed consequently. As a result, the peripheral resistance drastically falls. This facilitates the blood ejected from ventricle to flow promptly into the extremity arteries through aorta. To complete the treatment, the equipment inflates and deflates the cuffs in accordance with the cardiac period.
