Intermittent operation consumes a large amount of oxygen and its air flow varies in a wide range. While at working, fine bubbles of 1-3mm are produced continually from the micropores of the diaphragm, which increases the contact area of the bubbles and the wastewater. As a result, the oxygen transfer rate is greatly improves. When it stops working, the diaphragm contracts and the micropores will be closed. At the same time, the diaphragm will cling to the supporting pipe closely and the unperforated part of the diaphragm will seal the air vent. The double sealing design can effectively prevent the water/wastewater entering into the aerator or the aeration piping system.
