2008 Kawasaki Teryx LE Camo 4x4
Digital Fuel Injection and Numerous Detail Upgrades Help Peg the 4x4 Fun Meter
Feature-packed and ready for fun in almost any setting, the KawasakiTeryx 750 FI 4x4 LE takes the next evolutionary step with the additionof digital fuel injection. This deluxe Recreation Utility Vehicle (RUV)features all the fun-loving performance and utility of a standard 750FI 4x4, but adds handy standard features like a half-windscreen, cabroof, retractable cup holder and painted bodywork.
A wide chassis, big V-twin power, efficient CVT, superior groundclearance, impressive cargo capacity and sport handling made theoriginal Teryx one of the most talked-about RUVs on the planet. Theaddition of a new digital fuel-injection (DFI) system to itsmid-mounted 749cc 90-degree V-twin engine, helps add even more fun andutility to the Teryx, giving it a clear edge over its rivals.
The enhanced response provided by the Teryxs new digital fuelinjection system means its strong and proven V-twin engine isquicker-revving than ever. Kawasaki engineers kept much of the engineslikeable character when they added DFI, but still found ways to improveit such as changing the ignition timing to boost low and mid rangetorque and improve response at higher rpm. Other inherent benefitsgained from adding DFI include automatic altitude compensation, automatic idle adjustment and easy, choke-free starting.
The fuel injection systems sophisticated array of sensors includesan inlet air pressure, throttle position, crankshaft position, rpm, water temperature and a vehicle down sensor. As part of the DFIupgrade, the Teryx 750 FI 4x4 LE also received a new fuel tank with aninternal fuel pump.
Mated to the engine is Kawasakis superb continuously variabletransmission (CVT), which transfers the smooth power and quick responsefrom the big V-twin to the wheels smoothly and quickly. The healthyoutput of this powertrain provides true sport performance, in acontrolled manner that allows the driver to harness the full potentialof this impressive vehicle. Both the intake and exhaust cooling ducts were revised to betterprevent water or mud from entering the drive belt area. The new intakeduct flows air to the CVT more effectively for better cooling while theintake air temperature is reduced via heat shielding on the exhaustpipe located below the intake duct.
Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) data was added to the CVT BeltProtection Systems sensor inputs. Other inputs include a gear sensor(not in neutral), vehicle speed (measured from the rear wheel), andengine speed. The extra input permits the system to better prevent tirefreewheel and offer upgraded rock section performance with less beltoverloading. Should the system detect engine operation at high rpm formore than two seconds while the rear wheels remain motionless (i.e.rear wheels are immobilized and the belt is slipping), it automaticallyretards ignition timing and warns the rider via a flashing belt warninglamp.
Power is nothing without control big power demands a chassis tocompliment it and once again the Teryx delivers with an ideal bodywidth that is narrow enough to be useful and able to navigate mosttrails, yet wide enough to offer a roomy cab and additional stability. The wide track Teryx 750 FI 4x4 LE design exploits a large-diameter,thin-walled tubular frame offering the necessary rigidity withoutperformance draining weight. It also meets SAE regulations as aroll-over protective structure (ROPS) with an arrangement spaciousenough to comfortably fit two full-sized adults.
The Teryx 750 FI 4x4 LE shares the long A-arm and narrow frameconcept of its sport brethren to give it the maximum travel whileminimizing wheel camber change. For 2009, the adjustable Kayabagas-charged shocks have revised settings combined with a new stabilizerbar to improve ride quality. Combined with the mid-ship engine, thebalanced package offers superb control and cornering performance, evenat top speed.
When the terrain requires it, the driver can activate 4WD with asimple servo-control switch. Further traction management is achievedvia an ATV-style front differential control activated with a hand leverthat functions like a rear hand brake and lets the driver select howmuch the wheels are locked together. The rear wheels stay locked andalways turn together much like a sport ATV allowing the RUV toslide around corners easier in a drift style.
It continues its dominance in the field with 26-inch Maxxis tiresdeveloped specifically for the Teryx that enable superb forward andsliding traction. The tall tires offer good rough terrain handling andcontribute to its class leading ground clearance and ability toovercome obstacles.
A powerful RUV wouldnt be much fun without equally capable stoppingpower and Teryx 750 FI 4x4 LE delivers. It employs a combination ofdual 200mm discs up front and a sealed wet brake in the rear. The frontbrakes are tucked into the wheels for protection from debris and their27mm twin-piston calipers are rigid-mounted for optimum feel andcontrol. The advantage of the sealed rear brake is most apparent whenits able to keep working even in the wettest or muddiest ofenvironments. Its compact profile further adds to the remarkable amountof ground clearance.
Of course, this substantial performance is matched by Kawasakislegendary durability and reliability that starts on the surface - toughscratch resistant Thermo-Plastic Olefin (TPO) bodywork, that is. Skidplates help shield the Teryx engine and undercarriage from the ridestopping obstacles. For the trip to and from the ride spot, the LEsports a strengthened roof to resist wind gusts when transporting athighway speeds.
Inside, bucket seats and retractable three-point seat belts help thedriver and passenger stay relaxed; the Teryx 750 FI 4x4 LE has plentyof shoulder and leg room to provide a comfortable ride. Rider comfortand conveniences are enhanced with a half-windshield and dualretractable cup holders. It also has a steering wheel that ispositioned low for better driver control. Standard equipment on allTeryx models, the multi-function digital meter adds a fuel gauge andparking brake indicator to the hour meter, clock, odometer, dual tripmeters and warning lights.
Dont mistake the Teryx 750 FI 4x4 LE for just a player. It has workingskills too. Its standard 500-pound capacity, gas-assisted tilting cargobed is ideal for recreational users, yet versatile enough for work andhauling. A cargo net and tie down hooks in all four corners keep thegoods secure. Its 1300-pound towing capacity expands those cargoabilities further.
When the sun drops the action doesnt have to stop thanks to dual40W headlights showing the way and dual rear taillights letting it beseen. A 7.4-gallon fuel tank allows the Teryx to operate longer so thejourney isnt cut short either. With such a cargo-carrying andtransportability potential, it is an able partner forleisure/recreation activities, such as camping, hunting or day trips.
A large selection of authentic Kawasaki Accessories are availablefor the 2009 Teryx 750 FI 4x4 LE through Kawasaki dealers. As with alloff-highway vehicle recreation, Kawasaki encourages RUV drivers todrive responsibly and to respect the environment.
