Silicon carbide is produced at high temperature in electric resistance type furnace with quarts sand and petroleum coke as its main raw materials. Its hardness is between Aluminum Oxide and Synthetic Diamond. Mechanical intensity of it is higher than Aluminum Oxide. It is brittle and sharp and has electrical and heat conductivity in some degree. With higher purity of crystallization and hardness, when abrasive tools are of it, they are suitable of processing hard and brittle materials such as: Copper, Brass, Aluminum, Magnesium, hard alloy, titanium alloy, bearing steel as well as some non-metallic materials including: Glass, Optical Glass, Agate, Electrical Ceramics, Quartz products, Rock. Green silicon carbide is also used as high-grade refractory materials, electrical heating element and elements for electrical appliances.
