Neupeg (Pegfilgrastim) is a covalent conjugate of recombinant methionylhuman GCSF (Filgrastim) and monomethoxypolyethylene glycol. Filgrastimis a watersoluble 175 amino acid protein with a molecular weight ofapproximately 19 kilodaltons (kD). Filgrastim is obtained from thebacterial fermentation of a strain of Escherichia. coli transformedwith a genetically engineered plasmid containing the human G-CSF gene.To produce Neupeg (Pegfilgrastim), a 20 kD monomethoxypolyethyleneglycol molecule is covalently bound to the Nterminal methionyl residueof Filgrastim. The average molecular weight of Neupeg (Pegfilgrastim)is approximately 39 kD.
