| According to Thai traditional medicine, Thai women would grind the roots of this plant into powders and took it after meals. It is said to strengthen and darken gray hair; improve complexion; improve eyesight; increase energy and vigor; improve wrinkles and ease menopausal symptoms. An extraordinary effect was that the women also developed larger and firmer breasts. This extraordinary breast enhancing effect of this Thai plant has now attracted the attention of Thai, Japanese and other foreign scientists. These scientists have found complex composition of phytoestrogens in the root extracts, but so far are unable to synthesize chemically the active principles of this plant in the laboratory. The Thai government is now considering classifying this plant as a protected species to prevent excessive exploitation of this amazing breast enhancing plant | ||
| Composition of Pueraria mirifica root extract Extracts of Pueraria mirifica roots have now been well studied and characterized by the scientists. Of particular interest to scientists are the highly potent phytoestrogens present that are unique to this plant. Phytoestrogens or lant estrogens?are actually natural compounds that are found very widely in the plant kingdom. They have a structure similar to estrogens, and many of these plant estrogens actually form part of our diet: peas, soyabeans, clover, alfalfa and other legumes. | ||
| In 1952, scientists isolated the compounds that set Pueraria mirifica apart from any other phytoestrogen-containing plants in the pea and soyabean family : MIROESTROL and DEOXYMIROESTROL, which possess the highest estrogenic activity among the known phytoestrogens due to structural similarity to ESTRADIOL, the main human estrogen. | ||
| Pueraria mirifica also contains other chemicals--in addition to miroestrol and deoxymiroestrol--that belong to the ISOFLAVONE and COUMESTRAN groups of phytoestrogens, e.g., genistein, daidzein, daidzin, genistin and coumestrol. These isoflavonoids are also usually found in soybeans. However, the remarkable properties of miroestrol and deoxymiroestrol are that the oestrogenic activities are about 3,000-times more potent than that of soy isoflavones. It is a wonder how Nature bestowed such remarkable natural substances onto this plant and truly it is nature gift to women! |
