Design History/Concept

• Noguchi's first furniture design was a rosewood and glass table designed for A. Conger Goodyear, president of the Museum of Modern Art from 1929 to 1939
  
• The IN50 is very similar to that first design with a freeform sculptural base and biomorphic glass top
  
• Noguchi believed that sculptures shouldn't be left in museums, they should be used and appreciated in everyday applications
  
• Originally offered in birch, walnut, or cherry
  
• The table balances sculptural form with everyday function beautifully and harmoniously
  
• It is an elegant embodiment of the concept that less is more
  
• Part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art

• Legs are two identical pieces of solid wood
  
• Legs are connected by a metal dowel that when assembled appear to have a free-flowing form
  
• Base is self-stabilizing and supports the heavy top without connectors
  
• For authenticity purposes, Isamu Noguchi's signature on the edge of the glass and a signature medallion on the bottom leg were added on 2003
  
• "Trade Dress" protection from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, which provides a powerful defense against the unauthorized manufacture, distribution, or the use of the design's likeness
