Pressure Water Tank

When collected, stored, and distributed using a reliable plumbing system and pressure water tanks, water is an indispensable resource that helps everyone navigate through all aspects of life. A pressure water tank is a storage unit that maintains consistent water pressure throughout a plumbing system, ensuring smooth and efficient water flow to meet diverse needs. To work properly, about one-third of the tank is filled with water, and the remaining portion is air, which is compressed to create pressure that helps push water out of the tank into homes. Without air, a pressure water tank will not function optimally.

Types of pressure tanks and their functions

The main types of portable pressure water tanks include diaphragm pressure tanks, pressure water tanks with bladders, and air-pressure water tanks. Diaphragm pressure tanks consist of two chambers, one for water and another for compressed air. A rubber diaphragm separates the air from water, and as water is pumped into the tank, the diaphragm rises with the water level to the compressed air chamber, triggering the pump to shut off. Bladder pressure tanks also utilize two separate chambers for water and compressed air. The bladder acts as a self-contained balloon filled with air that can expand and contract, causing the tank sensor to switch the pump on/off.

Air-pressure water tanks, also known as air-over-water tanks, have a simplified design consisting of a single chamber filled with pressurized air and water that aren’t separated. Pressurized air pushes on water, providing the required pressure for homes. However, these tanks are usually found in older homes and are less efficient than modern ones. They are also large, so they consume a huge chunk of space.

Low- and high-pressure water tanks

Low- and high-pressure tanks hold water at varying pressure levels and are used in different applications according to the pressure requirements. A low-pressure water tank is typically used for storing and supplying water at fairly low pressures of about 14.7 pounds per square inch (psi). Common applications include residential water storage, agriculture, and rainwater harvesting. A high-pressure water tank, on the other hand, stores and supplies water at elevated pressures of about 40 to 150 psi or more. They are often used in industrial processes, fire protection systems, and municipal water supply. When buying some of the good high-pressure water tank, ensure it is well reinforced to withstand strenuous conditions. Stainless steel tanks are well reinforced and fit for tough conditions.
