The 5th China Internet Summit at West Lake was held in Hangzhou on September 10, 2005. This annual event is a premier gathering of China's Internet industry leaders.

This year's theme is "Connecting China and the World." Former US. President Bill Clinton is this year's keynote speaker. Prominent CEOs from around the world also participated and engaged in discussions about China's Internet commerce and Internet industry growth.

The year 2005 marks the 10th anniversary of the birth of China's commercial Internet. After the Internet frenzy and the so-called "NASDAQ wave," the Chinese Internet industry has entered a new era, marked with global competition and dramatic strategic adjustments.

Since its inception, the China Internet Summit at West Lake has been hosted four times by Alibaba.com. Each summit has a topic indicating current industry focuses and future directions of the Internet enterprise development and new economies. This year's topic, "Connecting China and the World," indicates the Chinese Internet industry will grow larger, stronger and even more global.
