When procuring beer bottles, prioritize due diligence to ensure product quality, safety, and supply chain reliability.

Material Specification & Safety:
Glass Type: Verify the specific glass type (e.g., flint, amber, cobalt blue) and its UV protection properties relevant to your beer style. Request material safety data sheets (MSDS) to confirm food-grade compliance and absence of harmful contaminants (e.g., lead, cadmium).
Wall Thickness & Strength: Crucial for safety during filling, capping, and transportation. Request wall thickness specifications and inquire about burst pressure test results. Consider sample testing for impact resistance, especially for automated bottling lines.
Heat Resistance: If hot-filling or pasteurization is involved, confirm the bottles' thermal shock resistance to prevent breakage. Request temperature resistance data.

Design & Functionality:
Neck Finish (Closure Type): Precisely match the neck finish (e.g., crown cap, swing top, ROPP) with your intended closure system. Request detailed drawings with dimensional tolerances (e.g., P-finish for crown caps). Inquire about compatibility with automated capping machinery.
Capacity & Fill Point: Confirm the stated volume (e.g., 330ml, 500ml) and verify the actual fill point to ensure accurate product volume and head space for carbonation. Request certified volume measurement data.
Weight & Palletization: Lighter bottles can reduce shipping costs, but not at the expense of strength. Understand the weight per bottle and how this impacts pallet load and shipping expenses. Request palletization schemes.

Supplier Vetting & Production:
Certifications: Look for suppliers holding relevant quality certifications (e.g., ISO 9001 for quality management, ISO 22000 for food safety). Request copies of these certifications and verify their validity.
Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ): Understand the supplier's MOQ and whether it aligns with your production scale. Negotiate MOQs if possible, or consider multiple suppliers for smaller runs.
Production Capacity & Lead Time: Confirm the supplier's daily/monthly production capacity to ensure they can meet your volume requirements. Obtain clear lead times for manufacturing and shipping.
Customization: If custom molds, embossing, or specific color tints are required, inquire about mold development costs, timelines, and intellectual property agreements for your design.

Quality Control & Logistics:
Inspection Protocols: Request details of the supplier's in-house quality control procedures, including visual inspection, dimensional checks, and defect rates. Inquire about third-party inspection options prior to shipment.
Packaging: Bottles are fragile. Confirm robust packaging standards (e.g., corrugated dividers, shrink wrap, pallet strapping) to minimize breakage during transit. Request images of packed pallets.
Shipping Terms (Incoterms): Clearly define Incoterms (e.g., FOB, CIF, DDP) to understand who is responsible for shipping costs, insurance, and risk at each stage of the journey. Get these in writing.
Sample Ordering: Crucial before placing a large order. Order samples from multiple suppliers to physically inspect quality, fit with closures, and suitability for your bottling line.
