When sourcing plastic containers, prioritize material suitability, certification, and seller transparency.

Identify specific polymer type: HDPE, PET, PP, PVC, PC, etc., each possesses distinct properties (chemical resistance, temperature tolerance, clarity, rigidity). Do not assume general "plastic" suffices.
Verify food-grade (FDA/EU) or pharmaceutical-grade compliance: Essential for direct food or medical contact. Request specific certification documentation.
Consider barrier properties: For oxygen-sensitive products, look for EVOH or multi-layer co-extruded options.
Recycled content: If sustainability is a factor, inquire about PCR (Post-Consumer Recycled) content and verification.

Request samples: Crucial for physical inspection of quality, fit, finish, and material feel before bulk order. Test samples with your product.
Certifications: Demand proof of ISO 9001 (quality management), ISO 14001 (environmental), and specific product-related standards (e.g., child-resistant packaging, UN ratings for hazardous materials).
Mould integrity: Inspect sample containers for flash, inconsistent wall thickness, sink marks, or warping, indicating poor mould maintenance.
Closure compatibility: Ensure the selected container neck finish (e.g., 28/410, G.P.I. 38mm) matches your intended caps/closures. Test a complete package.
Chemical resistance data: For chemical storage, request Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) or chemical compatibility charts for the specific plastic.

Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ): Negotiate realistic MOQs aligning with your demand. High MOQs can indicate limited flexibility or direct factory sales.
Customization capabilities: Clarify tooling costs, lead times for new moulds, and decoration options (labels, printing, embossing).
Packaging and Shipping: Confirm bulk packaging methods to prevent damage during transit. Understand Incoterms (e.g., FOB, CIF) and associated costs/responsibilities.
Seller Communication: Prioritize sellers with clear, prompt communication, demonstrating technical understanding of their products.
