The SmartAX MA5616 Multi-service Access Module (MA5616 for short) is a 2-U high and 19-inch wide board-inserted device. It provides four service slots for flexible board configurations.
The MA5616 applies in fiber to the building (FTTB) and fiber to the curb (FTTC) scenarios. It can also function as a mini-digital subscriber line access multiplexer (DSLAM) or multiservice access node (MSAN). The MA5616 can be installed in corridors or cabinets (indoor or outdoor).
Each MA5616 provides user-to-network interfaces (UNIs), such as ADSL2+, VDSL2, SHDSL, POTS, FE, P2P, ISDN, or combo ports, and two network-to-network interfaces (NNIs) that support GPON and GE.
The SmartAX MA5616 Multi-service Access Module (MA5616) is a board-pluggable box-type device of 2 U high and 19-inch wide. It provides access services with ultra-high bandwidths and flexible capacity expansion capabilities.
The MA5616 provides the following user ports: asymmetric digital subscriber line 2 plus (ADSL2+), very-high-speed digital subscriber line 2 (VDSL2), single-pair high-speed digital subscriber line (SHDSL), plain old telephone service (POTS), integrated services digital network (ISDN) and fast Ethernet/gigabit Ethernet (FE/GE).
It provides GPON/10G GPON/GE upstream transmission modes. It can be used in fiber to the building (FTTB), fiber to the curb (FTTC), and dedicated line access scenarios.
The MA5616 can also be used as a mini digital subscriber line access multiplexer (DSLAM) or a multiservice access node (MSAN) to provide traditional voice, data, and video services.

Inband network management mode: In this mode, the interaction messages between the U2000 and an ONU are transmitted over the service channel of the ONU and no additional device is required. This mode is cost-effective and supports flexible networking. However, the maintenance operations cannot be performed if the device service channel becomes faulty.
Outband network management mode: In this mode, the interaction messages between the U2000 and an ONU are transmitted through a non-service channel. This mode provides a more reliable device management channel. When a fault occurs on the device, users can use the dedicated management channel to locate the fault and monitor the device in real time. This mode requires an additional device to provide a management channel that is independent of the device service channel.
