What is a security jacket?

A security jacket can come in two types. The first is a jacket used by construction workers or anyone who must be visible on the job. It is made to be sturdy and has reflective elements on it. There are strips of reflective lattice along the chest and arms. The purpose of the reflective elements is to ensure that the wearer is visible at all times in dangerous situations. It is similar to a security or safety vest. The second type is a nondescript black jacket that is used by security guards. These are made to not stand out and usually have no other unique elements except for the word security or a logo. Black security jackets can come in men's and women's sizes.

Who uses security jackets?

The first type of security jacket is used by construction workers and others that work in dangerous environments. Crossing guards can also be seen wearing security jackets and vests. It is essential that the workers be seen at all times. The color is usually bright to further ensure visibility, though darker and even black versions are available. The second type of jacket is worn by security guards. They want to be able to blend into the background without drawing attention and observe the surroundings. As a result, the color is usually dark, most often black. Security guard jackets usually come with many pockets and straps for carrying walkie-talkies, nightsticks, etc.

What is a security jacket made of?

A black security jacket is made of different materials depending on the manufacturer. Polyester is by far the most common material and is woven into a mesh, though cotton and taffeta can also be used. This is true of both types of security jackets. The material needs to be lightweight but strong for ease of movement and durability during dangerous situations. Polyester is water-repellant and long-lasting, making it a good match for a jacket that must endure many situations.
