Mirrors are probably one of the most underrated household items. Most people are guilty of taking mirrors for granted, that is, not acknowledging the aesthetic value that mirrors add to the overall interior aspect of a house. However, the year 2022 emphasized the unnoticed importance of this decorative element and even re-introduced a particular mirror style from the late 90s—long wavy mirrors.

History of long wavy mirrors

Thanks to the brilliant and creative mind of Ettore Sottsass, an Italian architect with a penchant for producing unconventional and controversial furniture designs, wavy mirrors have been a part of people’s homes since the 1970s. Sottsass designed the Ultrafragola mirror, a pink-edged lighted wavy mirror that started the trend of mirrors with squiggly sides. “Ultrafragola” is an Italian word that means “ultimate strawberry,” which embodies femininity and softness. Since then, different varieties of wavy mirrors have been created to cater to people, especially women, who want to make these a focal point of their homes.

Long wavy mirrors are distinguished by the contrast between the sharp reflective edges of mirrors and the wavy mirror frames. Such a contrast somehow balances the overall aesthetic of the mirrors, thereby making them an interesting design piece and a fully functional piece of furniture at the same time.

Long wavy mirrors at present

Aside from human reflections, mirrors have witnessed different design transformations over the years. From having round and rectangular sides, mirrors have been a subject of experimentation for many furniture designers and producers. But, as previously mentioned, wavy mirrors are back to establishing a strong position in the market. To match the youthful energy of the decade, many designers offer wavy neon mirrors, which are expected to appeal to the younger generation. Fans of classic colors, however, can still find black wavy mirrors, white wavy mirrors, gold wavy mirrors, and even vintage wavy mirrors in furniture stores. To avoid the hassle of transporting large mirrors, online suppliers offer free delivery for long wavy mirrors. Special discounts are also available for those who want to buy in bulk for reselling purposes.
